Kohlrabis are a member of the turnip family, which may be unfamiliar to American kitchens, but are very popular in Germanic countries. Their odd shape and name can be a little freaky, but they’re actually very versatile.
Either raw or cooked, they make tasty dishes that even the meat-eaters will surely love. The green or white in color is sweeter, while the purple one is spicier. You can toss them into soups, salads, slaws and more.

There are so many reasons to discover kohlrabi. Aside from the health benefits mentioned, it also helps boost eye and bone health.
You can buy kohlrabis at the grocery store or farmers market. The farmers market will provide organic produce that is fresher and more delicious. They’re available all year round, but they are best around mid July to mid November.
To store, separate the bulb from the leaves, and then put them in the fridge. You have to put the leaves in a zip-lock plastic bag, where they will remain fresh for a few days. On the other hand, the bulb needs loose container, and it can last for weeks.
