In an announcement made yesterday, the critically acclaimed Netflix Series Chef’s Table is coming back for a third season on September 2. While the first two seasons featured chefs from all over the world, the third season will only focus on chefs from France. There will be four chefs featured in this new season: Alain Passard, Michel Troisgros, Adeline Grattard, and Alexandre Couillon. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/07/29/netflix-to-release-season-three-of-chefs-table-on-september-2-food-tv/ If you’ve only ever picked up an eggplant at the grocery store, you may think that each and every eggplant is the same — large, oblong, and deep purple. Well, take a walk through a farmers market mid-summer and you’ll realize that couldn’t be further from the truth. There are countless varieties out there, all unique in their own way. We picked 10 of our favorites to share so the next time you’re at the market, you’ll be inspired to try whichever you may find. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/07/29/a-visual-guide-to-10-glorious-varieties-of-eggplant-eggplant-of-desire/ When it comes to snacking, variety is the name of the game for me. But instead of changing up what I snack on, I prefer to take a different approach to change how I snack. Skip the munching and nibbling with these five easy ways to drink your favorite snacks. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/07/29/5-ways-to-drink-your-snack-right-now-snacks-with-a-purpose/ Summer is travel season. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, chances are you’ll get in a car, catch a train, or board a plane at least once. And if your summer plans do involve travel, you’ll want to start thinking about snacks. This week, we talked with five different road warriors, people who spend a good percentage of their lives getting from here to there and going basically everywhere, during the summer and throughout the year. They’ve got snacking down to a science, so we asked them to share their advice with us — and with you. Here are their 10 best tips so you will never be hangry again. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/07/29/10-snacking-tips-from-road-warriors-snacks-with-a-purpose/ Snacks are an essential part of travel. They keep hunger — and impulsive, hanger-driven decisions — at bay, sustaining long days on the road (or on your feet). They also offer a tiny piece of home, whether it’s the familiarity of a pack of peanut M&Ms when you’re in a foreign country or the knowledge that you’ve got your go-to granola handy for breakfast. With snacks and travel on our mind this month, we reached out to five road warriors, people who are away from home as often as not. They’ve got snacking down to a science — and they’re sharing their tried-and-true tips. I’ve known Mollie Chen, cofounder and advisor at beauty disruptor Birchbox, since we were assistant editors together at Conde Nast Traveler. And basically every memory of her involves snacks in some shape or form. When I worked through lunch, she delivered sweet treats to my desk; when we rode our bikes through rural Virginia, she was in charge of keeping us fueled with LUNA Bars and Greek yogurt; when we took a trip down to New Orleans, she made sure we figured out a way to pack a muffaletta for the plane ride home. In short, I can’t think of anyone more qualified to talk about snacks than Mollie. Here are a few of her best tips, as well as her go-to snacks (ice cream — shown, but not mentioned — is a given). via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/07/29/snacking-tips-from-road-warriors-entrepreneur-snacks-with-a-purpose/ “Go it alone” is a very powerful statement for living; it implies an independence and grit. There’s also a distinct pleasure in going it alone — peace in solitude, and no need to share. That same independence and pleasure can also be applied to cooking for one. Maybe you’re newly single, maybe you recently moved to a dorm and are seeking the comforts of home, or maybe you’re a mom with two wild children and you just want a single cupcake without the hike to your local bakery. Whatever your reason for cooking for one, here are six recipes for going it alone in the kitchen. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/07/29/from-pancakes-to-deviled-eggs-6-recipes-that-serve-just-one-go-it-alone/ I have always pretty much insisted on putting dinner on the table myself. Even though my husband is a capable cook who, thanks to odd work hours, is often home to cook, I like doing it. I like dreaming up dishes on my commute and stopping at the market across the street from our apartment for the accoutrements I need for dinner. I like coming home at the end of the day and working out my feelings through chopping and stirring. I like the whole process of cooking — I always have. Until, all of a sudden, I didn’t. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/07/29/how-thai-noodles-helped-me-quit-my-job-and-start-cooking-again-the-restaurant-meal-that-got-me-back-in-the-kitchen/ When traveling alone, I’m quiet and risk-averse. I spend a lot of time reading and napping. I plan my days carefully, avoid big tourist spots, wander art museums, and try to take up as little space as possible. It’s not that this is a bad way to travel, rather that when I am in the company of friends, I become an altogether different kind of traveler. My friends are outgoing — borderline rowdy — and I run with that energy. I have big adventures and meet people my solo self would never be brave enough to talk to. While some people feel less inhibited traveling by themselves, it has always taken a few good friends to unfurl me when we hit the road and I’m curled up in the back seat like an armadillo. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/07/29/why-i-love-traveling-with-friends-go-it-alone/ When you’re burning the midnight oil and your stomach starts to grumble, what should you reach for to fuel you through the night? We decided to go directly to the source. We mean writers, of course. After all, who knows better the pain and pleasure of the midnight munchies than the literary set? This month, we asked 20 authors, past and present, to share what they snack on in the wee hours. Elinor Lipman’s first story was published in Yankee magazine in 1981 and the much-beloved author has since gone on to produce 11 works of fiction, including The Family Man, The Inn at Lake Devine, Isabel’s Bed, and The View from Penthouse B. Mega-fan Helen Hunt spent 10 years bringing Then She Found Me to the screen, her directorial debut in which she also starred. Nor is Lipman a stranger to nonfiction: Tweet Land of Liberty: Irreverent Rhymes from the Political Circus, was published in 2012, followed by I Can’t Complain: (All Too) Personal Essays. All that writing makes us hungry just thinking about it. Can you guess what fuels this prolific writer? via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/07/29/author-elinor-lipmans-midnight-writing-snack-what-writers-eat-at-midnight/ |
