Yesterday Apartment Therapy posted this gorgeous house tour from Australia. This Scandinavian-inspired space is minimal, modern, and furnished in a black-and-white palette. There’s a lot I could say about this space, but I was most drawn to the kitchen (of course) and these gorgeous lamps that make a big statement in a relatively lackluster space. These lamps turn the kitchen into a warm, inviting space. While initially I assumed they were expensive, I was surprised to learn they are actually available at IKEA. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/08/30/this-is-how-a-60-ikea-light-fixture-can-look-in-your-kitchen-kitchn-goes-shopping/

Sweet peaches are arguably the best part of late summer, and inhaling as many as humanly possible is an important responsibility. But after you’ve eaten a handful from the peck, head into the kitchen to pull even more love out of the stone fruit with one of these seven recipes. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/08/30/7-ways-to-use-up-a-peck-of-peaches-ingredient-intelligence/ Plums hitting the farmers market stalls may be a sign that summer is winding down, but not before you get your fill of the juicy stone fruit. Often overshadowed by peaches, plums — whether red, purple, or yellow— deserve equally as much praise. So do yourself a favor and pick up a peck, eat as many as possible straight from the hand, and get into the kitchen for the rest. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/08/30/7-ways-to-use-up-a-peck-of-plums-ingredient-intelligence/ http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/comments/nutritionclubca.wordpress.com/2210/ http://ifttt.com/images/no_image_card.png Child immunization, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) during a recent survey reveals that parents believe that vaccinations ate no longer necessary for children and may start to sound alarm bells soon. Child immunization is still importantContrary to popular belief that immunization should be an essential preventive measure for many diseases like flu and other health conditions, vaccination has been proven to ward off some deadly virus or bacteria. A years-long research conducted by the AAP showed the marked increase of the reduced number of children going through vaccination compared to recent years, with parents either delaying or even refusing to have their children undergo vaccination. Vaccines help prevent diseaseSuccess stories have always been tied up with the need for vaccination as it was able to prevent no less than 322 million ailments, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many of the world’s most dangerous diseases are now fading into oblivion because of the advent of vaccinations back in the past. Although they did not specifically point out what specific diseases were those vaccines targetted to address, but the fact that the public’s mindset is shifting and tends to be growing, not is a better time to in still measures to avoid it from further compounding. The survey involved more than 600 paediatricians when it was started back in 2006 and another one back in 2013 to estimate the number of those having a change of heart on the process. Call to actionThis alarming concern is starting to push doctors and paediatricians to educate the public about the importance of vaccination, which has been proven to even prevent deaths associated with several communicable and those once thought responsible for many epidemics in the past. Some, on their own initiative, have been coordinating with their respective local health authorities to drive campaigns on vaccination and immunization, especially among young children. The World Health Organization reports that the world can be safe from major diseases with the help of proper vaccination and immunization, as millions of children all over the world continue to die from diseases that can be avoided by it. It could prevent as much a 2 to 3 million deaths per year especially among poor and less-developed countries where deaths are caused by tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough and measles, among others. The WHO believes that vaccination and immunization is the most effective and cost-efficient health intervention to address these problems. Besides both being rather fun, rarely used words, I honestly don’t know what each term means, so I usually just smile, nod, and point to what seems like the amount of peaches or apples I am looking for. Of course, they do mean specific sizes — here’s what they are and how they are different from each other. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/08/30/know-your-nomenclature-whats-a-bushel-and-a-peck-word-of-mouth/ It’s kind of unfair, how over-the-top the summer bounty is in August and how utterly bleak things can get in January. Yes, you can purchase tomatoes and raspberries in winter, but we all know nobody’s being fooled by those silly styrofoam props that look like the real deal but neither smell nor taste like anything. And don’t get me started on the texture. So how do we stretch the abundant sunshine of August to the darkest corners of January? The answer is simple: We can it up! via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/08/30/dont-be-selfish-preserve-something-now-for-your-winter-self-the-kitchn-summer-countdown/ Mason jars have come a long way from their humble canning origins, and it’s not hard to see why. These glass containers, which come in a variety of sizes (and even colors, if that’s your thing), are just inherently useful. In fact, if you have a kitchen that’s in need of some organization, they can be your best friend. Here are eight ways you can lean on these household staples to keep your kitchen in order. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/08/30/8-ways-to-organize-your-kitchen-with-mason-jars-mason-jar-everlasting/ The Best Trader Joes Snacks for School as Told by My 5-Year-Old The Victorious School Lunch8/30/2016 Back-to-school means packing not only lunches for my two small children, but also school snacks. While I enjoy making their lunches, I primarily rely on packaged foods for snacks. Most weeks we load up on crackers, cheese sticks, and fruit from our regular grocery stop, but we occasionally switch things up with a trip to Costco or Trader Joe’s. Just before school started, I took my 5-year-old daughter, Ella, with me on a snack-stash trip to Trader Joe’s and asked her for her help. Here are her 12 favorite Trader Joe’s products for school snacks (plus a few from me). via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/08/30/the-best-trader-joes-snacks-for-school-as-told-by-my-5-year-old-the-victorious-school-lunch/ We might be in the waning days of summer, but that doesn’t mean all the delicious produce is gone quite yet. There are still those late-season tomatoes, zucchini, and corn. Plus, berries and watermelon are still to be had depending on where you live. Before we enter the fall season and enjoy apples, squash, and the first round of root vegetables, these are the must-try recipes to put that summer bounty to good use. via WordPress https://jonathanwilhoite.wordpress.com/2016/08/30/12-gorgeous-summer-dishes-to-eat-before-the-seasons-over-recipes-from-the-kitchn/ |
