Social media sites have helped us a lot in this era, because now we don’t have to wait for a few weeks or months for a snail mail to come into our doorstep. However, they’re very addicting, and it’s not even beneficial at all. It’s probably why they’re a blessing and a nightmare at the same time.
Cyberbullying is one of the negative effects of social media. It gives people the license to be hurtful, since it’s a free space where you can express all your feelings. Just imagine how this is worse for kids and young adults.
In fact, a statistical report in 2014 estimates that 35% of children aged 11-14 experience cyberbullying in their lifetimes, and majority of them are girls.

Excessive social media use harms children, but it has its disadvantages to adults as well. For instance, instead of spending time with the kids, parents are playing Candy Crush and other Facebook games or scrolling through their pages. Plus, most of us take pictures of our food even before we eat it.
Face-to-face communication seems rare nowadays, too, and even the concept of missing someone really bad. When you see someone in person after a while, you’d just think “We talk every day on Facebook, it’s like he was never gone!”
Social media has its advantages and disadvantages, so it’s best to limit our usage.
